Giving Tuesday - Why I Give

"As an employee of UF Health Imaging - UF Health Flagler Hospital, I have had a firsthand look at the incredible care and support our hospital system provides patients. My family's journey with breast cancer, with my mother being a survivor for five years, highlights the importance of early detection through self-screening.

In January of this year, I experienced a health scare of my own when I developed bronchitis and noticed a persistent swollen lymph node in my right arm. Recognizing the significance of early detection, I took matters into my own hands and performed a self-check. Then, I realized something was amiss, so I scheduled my diagnostic mammogram.

Receiving the diagnosis was undoubtedly a challenging moment, but what brought me comfort was the presence of familiar faces among the medical team, including the same doctors, nurses, and staff members who helped my mother through her treatment in 2017. Their seamless communication and coordinated approach to my care eliminated the burden of juggling paperwork from one office to another.

I must also thank my co-workers, who rallied around me during this difficult time. When I received a voucher from the UF Health St. Johns Foundation, they accompanied me as I selected a wig, turning what could have been a somber day into a heartwarming memory.

My mother's incredible strength and resilience in her battle against breast cancer served as an inspiration and a guiding light throughout my treatment journey. Thanks to her fighting spirit and the exceptional team at UF Health Flagler Hospital, I could navigate my treatment successfully.

My story is a testament to the outstanding care and compassion that define UF Health Flagler Hospital, and I hope it inspires others to support the hospital's foundation, ensuring that more patients receive the same level of care and support that my family and I have been fortunate to experience." - Kelley W.
