Originally from Cuba, Dr. Benitez moved to the US as a teenager, where he earned an undergraduate degree at Miami Dade College’s Honors College, graduating with highest honors and distinctions and later at Florida International University, graduating Magna Cum Laude with a degree in Biological Sciences. His early undergraduate lab research work, led to important contributions in the area of cellular and molecular Biology and Cancer research, where he published work contributing to elucidation of molecular mechanisms leading to chemotherapy agent resistance. Dr. Edilberto Benitez obtained his medical degree at Florida Internal International University in Miami, FL. At Cleveland Clinic in Weston Florida, he completed residency training in Internal Medicine. After his residency, he completed his Cardiology Fellowship at the University of Florida in Jacksonville, FL, and his sub-specialty fellowship in Clinical Cardiac Electrophysiology at the University of Florida in Gainesville, Florida. Dr. Benitez has a passion for the diagnosis and treatment of heart rhythm disorders. Dr Benitez has comprehensive experience in the diagnosis and management of cardiac rhythm disorders and symptoms, including noninvasive and invasive diagnostic and therapeutic modalities such us implantation of pacemakers, cardioverter-defibrillators (ICDs), biventricular resynchronization devices, leadless pacemakers, cardiac electrophysiology studies, radiofrequency ablation and cryoablation of supraventricular and ventricular arrhythmias- including atrial fibrillation, atrial Flutters, ventricular tachycardias. He is a member of the Heart Rhythm Society and board certified in Cardiovascular Disease. He is fluent in Spanish. In his spare time, he enjoys outdoor activities and spending time with his family, friends and his cavalier spaniel (Winnie), and playing classical guitar.
